Now that school is out, I put my Sr. Patrol Leader (who happens to be my 13 yr old son) to work on arranging a duty roster with cooking and cleaning assignments (satisfies a Camping MB requirement).

The troop met tonight during Mutual and brainstormed meal ideas.  Some of the suggestions were quite a bit over the top but were simplified with a little encouragement!

Our Sr. Patrol Leader and his assistant (his twin brother) worked on a menu that was presented tonight (satisfies another Camping MB requirement).  Everyone thought it looked good.

Monday-Wednesday, July 5-7, 2010
I got invited as a guest on our Varsity/Venture High Adventure trip.  Knowing I have critical scout camp preparations to oversee, I went knowing we had a good plan in place.

Went over final camp details once more time to make any last minute adjustments.

Spent all day checking the menu and buying food to feed 20 scouters for 5 days. $400 at Costco, $300 at WinCo… My wife and kids helped me throughout the day and am very grateful for their support.

Today’s focus is on equipment: organizing tents, coolers, dutch ovens, firewood, food bins, outdoor supplies, fishing gear, bear traps (jk) and mosquito nets. Better get a move-on!

Ahhh Sunday, the anticipated day of rest…that will be the focus for today. Oh wait, I haven’t packed a single thing for myself yet. Ahhh CRAP!!

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to camp we go. Hope we didn’t forget anything. Signing off ’til Saturday…

WE MADE IT! 5 days with 12 scouts and only a few incidents to report: one car sickness, a few home sick and a trip to the ER. Other than that, the boys earned a total of 91 merit badges and probably hiked that much around camp to get them!  Being my first Boy Scout camp as the Scoutmaster, I’d say it was a success…

Work clothes and dress shoes…ugh. I want to be back in my camp clothes and hiking boots!
