I used to be a Staffer, a good old Staffer too,
But now I’ve finished Staffing, I don’t know what to do…
I just finished my first Wood Badge course as a member of the staff. There is such a great spirit that is felt during those few days of training! It’s hard to explain because the feeling is so different for everyone. This experience does change people though, I know that. It changed me when I went through my course in 2009 and now I watched it change others. …and I’m not talking about the ever-fearful transformation of becoming a “Super-Scouter”. The change I’m referring to here is the kind that fosters a deeper understanding of the program, its purpose and the profound connection between scouting and a young man’s journey to becoming stronger physically, emotionally and most importantly, spiritually.
I really enjoyed feeling the spirit of Wood Badge from a different perspective and hope to have the opportunity to be on staff again soon. I met so many great people who love the boys, love the program and love what the program does for the boys. Honestly, I don’t understand why people wouldn’t want to get completely immersed in this environment. It does so much good for you personally and for those you interact with at home, at work and in scouting. Why wouldn’t you want to be a part of this spirit? What keeps you from going? Why aren’t you doing this for the boys in your unit? What holds you back from making this a priority?
Stop worrying about what Wood Badge might do to you and just come and let the spirit of this experience touch your heart however it will.
