10 Reasons To Get Excited About Jamboree

T-minus 500 days until we depart for our pre-Jamboree East Coast Tour!  If you’re still trying to decide if you should attend, check out these 10 reasons to help convince you to go.  If you’ve already signed up and getting involved with your Jambo Troop, here are ten more reasons to be excited about going!

Summit Bechtel Reserve – The National Jamboree is one of the greatest events in a Scouting career.  2013 will be extra exciting because this event will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, BSA’s brand new High Adventure base in the mountains of West Virginia.  We’re gonna GO BIG…we’re gonna to GET WILD at SBR in 2013!

Rock Climbing – The Summit is right on the rim of the New River Gorge, an area that’s known around the world for its more than 1,600 climbing routes.  If there were an ideal place for Scouts to learn and practice the art of rock climbing, bouldering, and rappelling, The Summit is it.  Plenty of man-made climbing will be available too, so Scouts can expect a mix of both!

Whitewater – The New River Gorge is home to some of the world’s best whitewater, and The Summit will be right in the middle of it.  Whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking programs will all be central to the experience at SBR.  With a jewel like the New River as a resource, there’s plenty of opportunity for Scouts to experience some amazing river trips they’ll never forget.

Zip Lines, Challenge Courses, Hiking, & More – Adventure at The Summit doesn’t stop there.  Some of the largest zip line canopy tours in the country are strung through our trees.  Long distance, extended treks leave The Summit to explore the 70,000 acres of the New River Gorge – and new sports and courses are still being added.

Boards and Bikes – Aside from being some of the best mountain biking terrain anywhere, The Summit will also be home to some absolutely world-class skate and BMX programs. With the region’s largest park and plenty of features, SBR is going to become an action sports destination for lots and lots of people.

Target Sports – Archery and shooting are some of the most time-honored sport traditions in Scouting. The Summit is building on that by creating some of the best shooting and arrow facilities anywhere. With new equipment, new ranges and excellent instruction, Scouts will not be disappointed with the shooting experience they’ll find at The Summit.

Camping at Jamboree is going to be an experience too!  We anticipate a huge mass of tents, gateways, and Troop villages sprawled across this new scout property.

Pre-Jamboree tour of historic landmarks and national monuments we be part of our East coast adventure!  The area around and near the SBR is full of historically significant and amazingly fun sites.  Check with your local BSA council to see if that is being planned as part of your Jamboree experience.

Fellowship & Friendships will form at the Jamboree with opportunities to make life-long friends!

Preparing for & Participating at the National Jamboree will help you gain many leadership skills that will last you a lifetime – skills that will help in your home Troop, school, church and community.

It’s gonna be so much fun!!  500 more days until our adventure begins…R U in??
