I was driving through Salt Lake the other day and passed by the old Boy Scout building on Foothill Drive. It was sad to see cranes destroying the structure that once represented a wholesome organization. I had to stop and take a minute to process what was happening.
Back before the Boy Scouts of America compromised their traditions to the pressure of special interest groups, the Great Salt Lake Council was planning to move to a new location anyway. Seeing this building taken down for those reasons would not have felt so heartbreaking.
It got me thinking though. Where is BSA today? Did making those concessions for the alternative minority benefit this organization? Where is the flood of gay scouts joining troops and taking part in what they should have just gone off and created for themselves?
It’s like they came banging on the door, demanding to enter. Then after being let it, they burned the place down and said “Eh, we weren’t really all that interested anyway”.
I now see how that was the whole point… to destroy something that had such a strong influence for good, creating better citizens who were learning about their duty to God and our country while growing up to be defenders of the values America was founded upon.
And so their agenda was not-so-hidden after all.
